We provide a wide range of services for survivors, including service-enriched housing, nationally accredited child and family development programming, and complimentary counseling for anyone affected by domestic violence.

Position Summary:

The Substance Use Counselor plays a crucial role in supporting individuals facing challenges related to drugs, alcohol, and other addiction issues. This position focuses on guiding individuals toward behavioral modifications aimed at achieving full recovery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the case management team to deliver services that foster positive treatment outcomes.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for program participants based on assessments and screening results.
  • Engage with collateral sources to ensure continuity of care for participants.
  • Identify and address necessary substance use disorder services.
  • Maintain comprehensive client records, documenting treatment activities and progress.
  • Ensure client records are accurate, complete, and legible.
  • Facilitate weekly group sessions focused on substance use disorders.
  • Prepare monthly reports for the Community Naloxone Data Reports.
  • Create a monthly schedule for staff to conduct breathalyzer and urinalysis tests.
  • Administer breathalyzer and urinalysis testing as required.
  • Maintain written and electronic records, compile reports, and complete other program documentation (e.g., progress notes, incident reports, on-call logs, letters, psychosocial assessments).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field (Social Work, Psychology, Sociology); Master's Degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in group therapy and substance use counseling is required.
  • If in recovery from a substance use disorder, a minimum of three to five years of continuous sobriety is required.
  • Must hold certification or licensure in the District of Columbia with at least one of the following:
    • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC)
    • Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC)
    • Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC)
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
    • Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW)
    • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of the following pre-employment processes is required:
    • FBI Fingerprint/Background Check
    • Alcohol and Drug Test
    • Urine Screening
    • TB Test
    • Police Clearance
    • Must be fully vaccinated
  • Proficient in MS Office 365.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to supervise and manage daily program activities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule in a 24/7 operation and be on call as needed, including some weekends.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
