The focus of our Pediatric Support Specialists is to address each child's emotional and developmental requirements, ensuring they feel secure and at ease during their time in the hospital.

Utilizing a variety of educational tools, including medical dolls and interactive resources, you will prepare children for medical procedures, surgeries, and treatments.

Recognizing that play is a vital part of childhood, we offer numerous opportunities for children to engage in play and socialize with peers within the hospital environment.

Our dedicated team provides a comprehensive range of supportive services tailored for infants, children, and adolescents.


The Pediatric Support Specialist will deliver psychosocial assistance to children and families throughout their hospital experience and will be responsible for creating and sustaining a nurturing, therapeutic, and educational environment that fosters a child- and family-friendly atmosphere.

This role requires expertise in child development, allowing you to adapt interactions and treatments to meet the unique developmental and educational needs of each patient.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assess the psychosocial and developmental needs of patients and families in relation to their adjustment to the healthcare environment.


2. Facilitate suitable interventions through individual and group play/art activities, therapeutic engagements, and preparation for medical procedures and potentially stressful situations.

3. Establish treatment objectives.

4. Document Child Life interventions and services in weekly reports and maintain accurate records in the patient's medical chart in accordance with departmental policies.

5. Manage inventory, ensuring supplies are ordered, stocked, and maintained; keep play areas equipped with safe and developmentally appropriate toys and activities.

6. Initiate and execute new programs or projects as directed by the Director of Child Life.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree with a focus on child life

- Completion of a child life internship with over 500 hours of experience

- Eligibility for certification as a Child Life Specialist, to be obtained within one year of employment

- One to two years of experience working with infants, children, or adolescents

- Knowledge and skills to apply developmental theories for assessment and intervention across various age groups

- Strong interpersonal skills to build therapeutic relationships with children and families, along with effective communication abilities

- Analytical skills to identify and address challenges in a dynamic and often stressful environment

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master's Degree in child life

- Experience in a hospital setting as a Child Life Specialist

- Certification as a Child Life Specialist

Position Details:

- Job Type: Full-Time, 1.0 FTE

- Shift: Day

- Unit/Department: Child Life

- CBA Code: Non-Union

In this role, you can expect to work approximately 40 hours per week, with a schedule that rotates between Day and Evening shifts, typically from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm, without on-call requirements. Weekend shifts will be scheduled approximately once per month.
