Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Laboratory Manager to lead our team at St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, AL. As a key member of our LabCorp team, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations and administration of the clinical laboratory testing for the General Lab at St. Vincent's Birmingham Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct the daily operational activities of the Core Lab, ensuring technical and non-technical operations run smoothly.
  • Effectively manage staffing and monitor production schedules to ensure adequate coverage and proper use of overtime.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors, taking ownership of departmental staff.
  • Ensure the diagnostics laboratory provides market-leading service levels, meeting client needs and corporate service metrics.
  • Resolve client inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner, consulting with Medical Director, Technical Director, QA, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with corporate, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including CAP, CLIA, State, ISO, and personnel safety and quality of laboratory testing.
  • Assist in developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installing equipment and methods.
  • Manage staff, including recruiting, hiring, performance management, training, and development.
  • Ensure effective communication with leadership, clients, sales, corporate operations, and direct reports.
  • Conduct departmental meetings and maintain departmental communication.
  • Investigate deviations from established procedures and ensure effective corrective action.
  • Maintain technical knowledge in the assigned department(s) for laboratory testing.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Technologist in a clinical diagnostics laboratory.
  • Prior supervisor experience managing several direct reports is preferred.
  • Previous experience managing people leaders is a plus.
  • ASCP certification is required.
  • Experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory environment is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and relevant state regulations.
  • Understanding of laboratory operations and policies and procedures.
  • Proven success in training and developing technical and non-technical employees.
  • Ability to problem-solve and provide solutions under minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment.
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
