We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Interpretive Program Specialist to join our team at Huron-Clinton Metroparks. As a key member of our interpretive team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging interpretive programs to diverse audiences, promoting public interest in natural and cultural resources, and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve our mission.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and conduct interpretive presentations, talks, and demonstrations for school groups, families, and the general public.
- Promote public interest and participation in interpretive programs through various marketing strategies and outreach efforts.
- Work a varied schedule, including weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts, to accommodate program needs and visitor demands.
- Register groups and individuals for programs, manage logistics, and maintain accurate records.
- Market programs and events to maximize attendance and engagement.
- Provide exceptional customer service to park visitors, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain indoor and outdoor facilities, including animal enclosures and trails, to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors.
- Participate in special events and projects as needed, contributing to the overall success of our interpretive programs.
- Associate's degree in a relevant field, such as nature interpretation, environmental education, biology, or natural resources management.
- Progressively responsible experience in interpretation, education, or a related field.
- Ability to promote and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues, visitors, and external partners.
- Valid Michigan driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and work effectively in a team environment.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) certification or the ability to obtain it within one year.
- Knowledge of Michigan Science Standards and the ability to design science education programs that support these standards.
- Ability to operate various tools and equipment, including those related to animal care and facility maintenance.
