As a School Counselor, your primary responsibility will be to assist students in achieving success academically, socially, and emotionally through both individual and group counseling. You will collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to establish a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment that strengthens the connection between home and school.

‖ **Key Responsibilities Include:**


Providing individual and group counseling sessions aimed at resolving interpersonal or family issues that hinder academic performance, including crisis intervention as necessary.

Conducting interviews with students, family members, and school staff to collect information essential for assessing student social, emotional, and behavioral adaptation to school and the community.

Maintaining regular communication with students' parents/guardians to update them on their child's progress, challenges, and any changes in home circumstances that may impact school performance.

Developing and revising Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIP) as required, in compliance with company, school, state, and federal regulations and procedures.

Participating in IEP team meetings and facilitating discussions at the discretion of the school district.

Actively engaging in other team meetings as needed to address specific student and parent concerns.
Collaborating with educational and social services professionals to develop suitable agency services for students and their families.

Providing case management functions for students, which includes but is not limited to coordinating parent meetings, emergency transportation requests, disciplinary actions such as detention/suspension, and coordination with external therapists.

Working alongside teachers, parents/guardians, district personnel, and service providers to identify effective solutions to learning and behavioral challenges, while always maintaining effective public relations and projecting a positive organizational image.

Ensuring the application of positive teaching methodologies by conducting monthly climate assessments through direct observation of classroom staff's implementation of IEP goals and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans.

Offering guidance, consultation, and support to teachers in developing classroom schedules,


maintaining student data systems, and facilitating student transition plans to ensure appropriate curriculum, scheduling, and services based on each student's IEP and other relevant goals.

Evaluating student progress through regular reviews of classroom data collection and recording systems, providing necessary training and guidance to classroom staff to address student needs effectively.

Serving as a role model for effective teaching and communication, reinforcing the organization's emphasis on behavior analytic, empirical approaches to education, extensive data utilization in decision-making, and the application of positive reinforcement to achieve optimal performance when working with students and colleagues.

‖ **Qualifications Required:**

Bachelor's degree or higher in educational counseling, therapy, social work, or a closely related field.
Master's degree in a related field preferred.
Meet all state and district licensing and/or credential requirements.

Accepted licenses and/or credentials include:
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
Educational Psychologist
School Counselor
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
Certified School Social Work Specialist (C-SSWS)
Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (DCSW)
Licensed Clinical Social Worker Psychotherapy (LCSW-R)
Other state credentials authorizing provision of school-based counseling may be considered in lieu of licensure.

Prior experience working with students with emotional disorders and challenging behaviors in an educational or classroom setting.
Advanced oral and written communication, instructional, curriculum, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
Familiarity with relevant technology, including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
Prior experience working with students in a special education program setting preferred.
