Youth Peer Specialist

Family Service League is seeking a Peer Specialist to provide support to youth and families in need. The ideal candidate will have first-hand experience with mental health or behavioral challenges and be able to use their lived experience to assist others.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide weekly meetings with caregivers and family members in their homes and communities.
  • Develop skills and goals with caregivers to support the mental and physical health, development, and well-being of children.
  • Engage in discussions, psychoeducation, self-advocacy, empowerment, and parenting skills development with caregivers.
  • Document progress in an Electronic Health Record and maintain regular communication.
  • Develop Treatment Plan Goals and provide community resources and general support.
  • Transport caregivers and youth as needed and work collaboratively with other staff members.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be an individual 18 to 30 years old who has self-identified as having first-hand experience with mental health or behavioral challenges.
  • Prior knowledge of mental health conditions and experience working with children, preferably those with special needs, is required.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, engagement, and verbal and written communication skills are required.
