Summary:
The Research Project Associate, under the guidance of the Research Manager at the Center for Deaf Health Equity, will focus on advancing research in health equity and outcomes for DDBHH populations. This role involves supporting NIH-funded initiatives and collaborating with the research team to disseminate findings, co-author publications, and deliver presentations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of research initiatives, ensuring that study materials are accessible, conducting cognitive interviews, and tracking project timelines.
- Engage in health communication efforts, including translating complex health information into accessible ASL for general audiences and collaborating on the creation of health-related videos.
- Work with team members on dissemination projects, including the preparation of research briefs, fact sheets, and academic manuscripts.
- Maintain and update codebooks to ensure alignment with survey questions and responses in Qualtrics.
- Train and oversee research assistants and technicians in data collection processes, including interviews and informed consent procedures.
- Conduct interviews and gather data from DDBHH participants while ensuring confidentiality.
- Perform data cleaning and prepare visual representations for publication.
- Prepare documentation for Gallaudet University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) review.
- Keep accurate records of interviews, ensuring the confidentiality of participants as required.
- Execute administrative and management tasks related to research projects as assigned.
- Collect information from team members and review timelines to prepare agendas for project meetings.
- Update and maintain content on the Center for Deaf Health website.
- Assist in organizing training sessions, surveys via Qualtrics, and the adaptation of research materials for accessibility to deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing individuals.
- Foster a positive and supportive working relationship with colleagues and supervisors.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, participating in relevant activities and workshops.
- Serve as a mandatory reporter under Title IX and complete annual Title IX training and compliance requirements.
- Prioritize workplace safety as a shared responsibility, adhering to safety protocols and promptly reporting any hazards.
- Perform additional related duties as necessary.
- Bachelor's degree.
- A minimum of two years of experience in project coordination, human services, or a related field.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language.
- Graduate-level coursework in social sciences.
- Experience working with clients or patients who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong interest in research addressing health disparities among deaf, deafblind, and/or hard of hearing populations.
- Proven ability to collaborate across university departments and with external stakeholders.
- Commitment to fostering diversity and contributing to an inclusive work and learning environment.
- This position is funded by a grant.
- The selected candidate will undergo a background check prior to employment at Gallaudet University.
