Registered Nurse

The Float Pool RN I is a versatile and skilled registered nurse who is adept at providing care across various Specialty Units, including Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to ensure safe and effective care for patients in assigned areas. The Float RN plays a crucial role as a member of the interdisciplinary team, adhering to established protocols and standards to address the needs of high-acuity patients. This position embodies the mission, vision, and values of Mission Community Hospital, focusing on patient throughput, enhancing patient experiences, and integrating evidence-based practices into nursing care.
Key Responsibilities- Clinical Inquiry and Critical Thinking: Engages in reflective practice, challenges existing norms, and fosters practice improvements through research and experiential learning.
- Effective Communication: Maintains professional interactions with fellow RNs, physicians, and healthcare team members, employing the SBAR communication technique when necessary. Provides comprehensive discharge instructions tailored to individual patient needs.
- Confidentiality: Upholds strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies, ensuring ethical and legal compliance in all activities.
- Delegation: Assigns tasks within the legal scope of practice and supervises patient care effectively.
- Documentation and Technology Utilization: Employs information technology to accurately document care processes in a timely manner.
- Care Evaluation: Assesses the effectiveness of care plans through patient observation and communication, adjusting plans as necessary.
- Adaptability: Responds to changing patient care demands, which may require reassignment with little notice, and may involve floating between departments during a single shift.
- Infection Control: Adheres to Universal Precautions and infection control standards, ensuring proper hand hygiene before and after patient interactions.
- Information Seeking: Contributes to the development and monitoring of policies and guidelines, actively seeking resources to enhance patient care and safety.
- Medication Administration: Administers medications in accordance with hospital policies, ensuring patient safety and reporting any errors promptly.
- Nursing Process and Assessment: Collects and interprets complex patient data to address total care needs, providing comprehensive treatment plans and education to patients and families.
- Patient Advocacy: Represents and supports the values and beliefs of patients and families, recommending best practices.
- Enhancing Patient Experience: Demonstrates compassion and attentiveness, anticipating patient and family needs to minimize wait times and enhance comfort.
- Patient Throughput Support: Aids in the efficient placement, transfer, and discharge of patients, collaborating with case management to ensure timely transitions.
- Preceptorship: Mentors new staff, actively participating in the orientation of new RNs and nursing students.
- Performance Improvement: Engages in initiatives aimed at enhancing patient satisfaction and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Charge Nurse Responsibilities: May assume charge nurse duties when competencies are documented.
- Other duties as assigned.
Licensure/Certifications:
- Current California RN licensure
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
- Completion of LA City Fire Card certification within 30 days of employment or transfer
- Completion of assault management training
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered nurse in an acute care environment.
- Validated competencies in relevant areas of practice.
