Position Overview:
This Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) role is situated within the VA Community Living Center, part of the Central Iowa VA Health Care System. The primary focus is on delivering compassionate care to Veterans who require extended hospital stays and short-term rehabilitation. This includes assistance with daily living activities, skilled nursing care, and support for those with dementia.
Mission Statement:
The goal of the Community Living Center is to help each Veteran achieve their highest level of well-being, prevent health declines, and provide comfort during end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities:
The LPN assigned to this unit will be responsible for:
- Providing comprehensive care to a diverse Veteran population with various medical, mental health, and end-of-life needs.
- Performing direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Exhibiting exceptional customer service skills in interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Monitoring and responding to patients' care needs, including medication administration, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education.
- Accurately documenting patient information in electronic health records.
- Participating in interdisciplinary care planning and implementation of care orders.
- Recognizing emergency situations and taking appropriate action.
- Engaging in performance improvement initiatives and fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity and continuous learning.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position requiring 80 hours per biweekly pay period, with options for day or night shifts. Weekend and holiday rotations are mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits:

Qualifications:
