Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Catheterization Laboratory Specialist to join our team in Decatur, Illinois. The successful candidate will work alongside cardiologists and other medical professionals to perform diagnostic and interventional procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pre-Procedure Preparation:
    • Ensure all necessary equipment and tools are sterile, functional, and properly set up for procedures.
    • Verify patient information, including medical history and allergies, before the procedure begins.
    • Assist in preparing patients for procedures, including setting up monitoring equipment and ensuring proper positioning.
    • Provide patient education and reassurance before the procedure.
  • Assisting with Procedures:
    • Assist cardiologists during cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stent placement, and other interventional procedures.
    • Handle sterile instruments, such as catheters, balloons, and stents, during procedures.
    • Operate X-ray fluoroscopy equipment and assist with imaging during diagnostic tests.
    • Monitor vital signs during procedures and report any abnormalities to the physician.
    • Administer medications under physician direction, ensuring patient safety throughout the procedure.
  • Post-Procedure Care:
    • Monitor patients for immediate complications after the procedure.
    • Assist in transferring patients from the procedure table to recovery.
    • Help with patient recovery by monitoring cardiac rhythm and vital signs.
    • Provide post-procedure instructions to patients and their families.
  • Equipment Management and Maintenance:
    • Maintain, clean, and sterilize cath lab equipment and instruments.
    • Regularly check and troubleshoot cath lab machinery.
    • Order necessary supplies and manage inventory.
    • Assist in calibrating equipment to ensure accurate diagnostic results.
  • Patient Monitoring and Safety:
    • Continuously monitor patients' vital signs during procedures.
    • Ensure proper documentation of patient information, procedures, and outcomes.
    • Adhere to safety and infection control protocols.
    • Monitor the catheter insertion site for signs of complications.
  • Collaboration with Medical Team:
    • Work closely with cardiologists, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care.
    • Attend pre-procedure meetings to review patient conditions and provide input on the appropriate procedure.
    • Assist in evaluating the results of diagnostic tests.
  • Education and Training:
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in cardiac catheterization techniques and equipment.
    • Participate in ongoing education, certification programs, and training in areas such as radiation safety and advanced cardiovascular life support.
    • Educate patients about their condition and the importance of follow-up care.
    • Assist in training and mentoring new staff or students in the cath lab environment.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 per year (based on 40 hours/week), tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
