We are currently seeking a qualified Power Systems Engineer for our Packaging mill in Kingsport, TN.

The Plant Electrical Engineer will oversee the effective operation, maintenance, inspections, coordination, and reliability of the mill's electrical distribution network.

This role involves representing the mill and coordinating activities to resolve issues between the mill's electrical distribution system and the electrical power supplier.

The engineer will also play a crucial role in identifying and developing capital projects related to electrical distribution enhancements, ensuring compliance with NFPA70E and the National Electrical Code, as well as managing installations, modifications, and upgrades of AC and DC variable speed drives, motors, programmable logic controllers, motor controls, and motor control centers. Additionally, the engineer will focus on asset maintenance and driving reliability improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the identification, prioritization, and execution of significant improvement opportunities within our electrical distribution network.
  • Lead the identification, prioritization, and implementation of capital improvement projects on Paper Machines and associated equipment.
  • Drive the identification, prioritization, and execution of reliability enhancements and asset management initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to appropriate specifications, standards, tools, and safety practices to enable informed decision-making at all organizational levels.
  • Effectively manage relationships and communication between the corporation, the mill, and suppliers/contractors.
  • Provide tactical involvement in the area of drives, both package and sectional.
  • Participate in or lead problem-solving events (PSE) for notable internal issues.
  • Promote and support initiatives that foster Best-In-Class safety performance.
  • Contribute to updates of mill electrical safety protocols.
  • Engage in annual outages to ensure the proper functioning of the mill's electrical distribution system.
  • Maintain collaborative business relationships with other engineering professionals within the Domtar organization to identify and share best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in modern PC-based office software tools and AutoCAD.
  • A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in manufacturing or electrical distribution management.
  • At least three (3) years of experience with AC Variable speed drives.
  • At least three (3) years of experience with PLCs.
  • Strong project management, planning, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) years of experience in manufacturing or electrical distribution management.
  • Five (5) years of experience with AC Variable speed drives.
  • Five (5) years of experience with PLCs.
  • Five (5) years of experience with CMMS Systems (preferably SAP, others will be considered).
