Job Summary

An opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Engineer is available with Facilities Planning and Development, UM Health. The position reports to the Manager of Engineering. The Facilities Planning and Development department provides a broad spectrum of services related to facilities operations and project construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of engineering work in planning and design of the various mechanical systems used in healthcare facilities.
  • Coordinates, and/or participates in the preparation of estimates, and/or plans and specifications for several concurrent new building, building renovation, and/or infrastructure upgrade projects.
  • Plans, directs, supervises, coordinates, and participates in the preparation of studies, reports, and budget estimates as part of project work and problem solving.
  • Provides in-office and on-site troubleshooting activities associated with maintenance operations and construction projects.
  • Provides leadership, engineering expertise, and participates in the preparation of, maintenance of, and implementation of office and University standards, Master Plans, Design Guidelines, Master Specifications, Preferred Manufacturers Lists, and standard design details.
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the design and construction industry, much of which focused on healthcare.
  • Maintains a Professional Engineer license with the State of Michigan or has the ability to become registered in 18 months from date of hire.
  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge in mechanical system design in healthcare facilities.
  • Has acquired a bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with normally encountered office automation software (Microsoft products, email, etc.) and AutoCAD design experience is desired.
