Position Summary :
The Rex Core Laboratory is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technician to contribute to their operations. This role involves performing entry-level patient testing and various administrative functions to support clinical activities within the UNC Healthcare System.
Work Schedule: This is a per diem role, requiring availability on weekends, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (once a month)
Key Responsibilities :
1. Guide patients in preparation for tests that necessitate fasting and address any inquiries they may have regarding the procedures.
2. Ensure the maintenance of laboratory equipment and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
3. May assist in the education of Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, as well as the training of new staff members.
4. May oversee the daily operations of a specific laboratory section or work area.
5. May engage in special projects or assignments, either individually or as part of a team.
6. Conduct a variety of routine and standardized tests utilizing established techniques and equipment. Prepare specimens, resolve specimen-related issues, and perform analytical assessments. Properly label and store specimens.
7. Prepare reagents and assist in the formulation of standard and control materials. Monitor reagent levels and help maintain inventory supplies.
8. Document test results and maintain accurate records. Communicate test outcomes, reporting any deviations from expected results to the supervisor or ordering physician.
Educational Requirements:
● Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● If holding an Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, must be eligible for ASCP or AMT Board of Certification and obtain BOC within one year.
● If holding an Associate's degree in Chemical or Biological Science, certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) Board of Certification (BOC) is required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● No prior experience is necessary.
