POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Counsel will deliver comprehensive legal support and strategic advice to one or more of Balchem's business segments, focusing on various aspects of operations, including the evaluation of marketing claims. This role will involve collaboration with the Assistant General Counsel as necessary. Additionally, the Senior Counsel will oversee the review of corporate contracts, which encompasses procurement agreements, real estate transactions, and other legal matters. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to navigate across diverse functions and business segments, possess exceptional interpersonal and leadership capabilities, and communicate effectively at all organizational levels.

This position offers significant opportunities to engage in a variety of legal matters, including mergers and acquisitions and litigation, fostering professional growth as a versatile and trusted legal advisor and business partner. The Senior Counsel will report directly to the Company's General Counsel and Secretary, with a dotted line to the Assistant General Counsel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Act as the primary legal advisor for at least one of Balchem's three business segments.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts and agreements, including those related to procurement and real estate.
  • Conduct legal research and provide training as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address and provide guidance on legal issues.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school. Must be admitted to practice and in good standing with any state bar.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department; in-house experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with advertising law is advantageous.
  • Experience in environmental law and/or labor and employment law is a plus.
  • Willingness to relocate within commuting distance of our Montvale, NJ headquarters.
  • Hybrid work model, generally expected to be in the office three days a week.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing circumstances, and learn new areas of law effectively.
  • Strong business insight and capability to provide practical legal advice and solutions.
  • Proactive in leading various projects.
  • Exemplary integrity and a strong work ethic.
  • Effective communication skills with a range of contacts, including external attorneys, senior management, and business partners.
  • Primarily sedentary work environment.
  • Proficient in operating standard office equipment, including computers.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be necessary.
