Community Service Officer, University Police Services

Under the direction of the Community Service Supervisor, this position performs a variety of security-related tasks for various NSHE campuses under University Police Services, Southern Command. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining constant radio communication and responding to all calls addressed to them.
- Providing security for state buildings and grounds, and enforcing applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Assisting with medical emergencies, such as providing CPR, defibrillator, and first aid.
- Notifying University Police Services of all emergency situations, including fire alarms, fights, disturbances, and medical emergencies.
- Relaying knowledge of emergency situations to responding police units.
- Providing walking safety escorts as directed or requested.
- Assisting with unlocks for students or employees who are locked out of a space for which they are authorized access.
- Collecting found property and properly securing or releasing it.
- Providing assistance to other campus departments, such as Special Events, Vendor access to Facilities, etc.
- Completing walking foot patrols of buildings and grounds, checking for safety and security concerns.
- Submitting work orders for issues observed to need repair, such as lights that are out or damaged property.
- Assisting with checks of emergency call boxes.
- Assisting with jump starts for disabled vehicles.
- Responding to other non-confrontational calls for service as directed.
- Engaging with community members and participating in community outreach events.
- Observing, reporting, and checking on the welfare of individuals.
- Completing Information Reports for property intake or incidents as requested.
- Immediately reporting any injury sustained while on duty.
Minimum qualifications include graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work, which included applying and implementing rules, regulations, or established policies. Preferred qualifications include strong customer service orientation, excellent management and organizational skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multi-task, problem solve, and maintain confidentiality.
