Job Summary:

Blackburn, Childers & Steagall, PLC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Tax Manager to join our team in our Boone, NC office. As a key member of our tax team, you will be responsible for managing and mentoring team members, reviewing and managing tax engagements, and assuming full responsibility for directing large engagements and special assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor members of the tax team to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement.
  • Tax Engagement Management: Review and manage tax engagements to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Engagement Direction: Assume full responsibility for directing large engagements and special assignments.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise the assignment of duties to, and the training of, staff and senior accountants assigned to engagements.
  • Process Control: Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate a high level of technical proficiency in tax laws and regulations.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrate an understanding of business issues relating to complex transactions.
  • Client Communication: Work and communicate effectively with clients to enhance their understanding of business and tax issues.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to the tax team.
  • IRS and Department of Revenue Correspondence: Review and correspond with the IRS and Department of Revenue as it relates to audits and notifications.
  • Software Proficiency: Demonstrate an awareness of firm software packages and the ability to use such software effectively and efficiently.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting required; master's degree in accounting preferred.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in preparing and reviewing individual, partnership and corporate tax returns with a familiarity of payroll tax, sales tax and general bookkeeping.
  • CPA License: Current CPA license required.
