Role Summary: The Healthcare Financial Advocate serves as a vital resource for patients at HopeHealth Inc., guiding them through the complexities of securing financial assistance for medical services, prescription medications, and external referrals. This role is essential in gathering pertinent information from new patients and ensuring accurate data entry into the practice management system for comprehensive reporting.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory; an Associate's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in a medical office or hospital setting, ideally in a front office or financial counseling capacity.
- Familiarity with eClinicalWorks is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.

- Must successfully complete an internal certification exam within the designated timeframe to retain the position.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with all new patients during their initial visit.
- Assess new patients for interest in applying for available benefits through the Annual Registration Form.
- Review, input, and digitize new patient documentation.
- Enter critical patient information into the practice management system, including demographics, insurance details, and patient responsibilities.
- Utilize SC Thrive to evaluate patient eligibility for benefits such as Medicaid, Affordable Care Act (ACA), Sliding Fee Discount Program (SFDP), and WellVista.
- Assist eligible patients in gathering necessary documentation for Medicaid, Sliding Fee Scale Discount Program, ACA, and WellVista applications.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring patients understand their coverage and responsibilities.
- Guide uninsured patients through the ACA insurance options during open enrollment periods.
- Timely input of patient payer information into the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM).
- Update the practice management system and PBM as patients progress through the benefits process.
- Coordinate with various departments to address patients' financial needs.
- Proactively follow up with patients via phone regarding required documentation, inquiries, or other requests.
- Perform additional assigned duties as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to communicate effectively in the primary language of the region. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds is required. Vision and hearing must be corrected to normal limits. Manual dexterity is necessary for data entry and various tasks.
