Job Description

Hunton Trane, a division of The Hunton Group, is seeking a skilled Equipment Estimator to analyze project needs and compile accurate cost estimates for material and equipment. The selected individual will be responsible for identifying cost-saving opportunities and collaborating with the Sales team to ensure timely project completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Compute cost estimates for materials, equipment, labor, and other construction-related activities.
  • Analyze project requirements and compile precise cost estimates using plans, specifications, and industry knowledge.
  • Select and price equipment in accordance with project plans and specifications.
  • Perform take-offs and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy in quantity, size, configuration, voltage, and other specifications.
  • Develop detailed proposals, encompassing scope definition, exceptions, and exclusions.
  • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and risk factors across various projects.
  • Provide support to the sales and fulfillment team in developing equipment submittals as needed.
  • Maintain a competitive edge by staying up-to-date with industry trends and innovations.
  • Optimize job costs by negotiating prices with vendors/subcontractors and obtaining competitive quotations for materials and services.
  • Secure discounts from Trane corporate and accurately record them in Worksight.
  • Document all work by maintaining files for each project.
  • Obtain and validate vendor quotes to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Organize and lead pre-bid meetings, implementing necessary adjustments as required.
  • Manage specific in-house accounts.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work overtime and weekends as dictated by project demands.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Knowledge of construction industry practices and materials.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to accurately estimate costs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in relevant software for cost estimation and project management.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in conducting pre-bid meetings and negotiating with vendors/subcontractors is preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, engineering technology, or a related field; or a minimum of five years of experience in estimating, engineering, or construction management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of Trane HVAC equipment preferred.
