City Assessor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced City Assessor to join our team at the City of Colonial Heights, VA. As a City Assessor, you will be responsible for planning and overseeing the assessment of real estate valuation for the City in accordance with the Code of Virginia and generally accepted appraisal practices.

• Develop and implement procedures for the appraisal of real estate
• Locate, list, assess, and determine the taxable status of all real property
• Conduct market value studies and analyses to ensure equalization of assessments
• Interpret and administer laws regarding real estate assessments and exemptions
• Conduct site visits to verify information and property value
• Examine plats, maps, and photographs related to property valuation
• Produce and maintain all real estate assessment records and documentation
• Address public and professional inquiries

• High School Diploma and over ten years of directly related supervisory experience or
• Two years of college or Associate's Degree and over ten years of directly related professional experience or
• A Bachelor's Degree and over five years of directly related professional experience or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Must be a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in Virginia or obtain such certification within a reasonable period of time after initial employment
• Must be certified by the Virginia Department of Taxation within a reasonable time after initial employment in accordance with the Code of Virginia
