Job Summary

Suffolk County, NY is seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Social Worker to join our team. As a key member of our mental health services team, you will be responsible for providing professional psychiatric casework and psychotherapy to patients in a mental hygiene outpatient clinic or other appropriate setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews referrals to the Adult Single Point of Access Unit (ASPOA) to approve eligibility for Assertive Community Treatment and Assisted Outpatient Treatment;
  • Approves the screen-out of any client deemed ineligible for Adult SPOA services;
  • Refers clients whose needs cannot be met by the program to an appropriate agency equipped to address client needs;
  • Participates in case conferences to discuss high-risk/high-need or challenging client cases;
  • Provides clinical supervision and guidance to line staff;
  • Reviews the AOT Weekly Monitoring Reports and Significant Event Reports and directs staff to follow-up on any outstanding issues;
  • Assists with coordination of AOT Removal Order request from treatment teams;
  • Assists with development of AOT Treatment Plans;
  • Attends planning and policy meetings set forth by NYS Department of Health and Office of Mental Health;
  • Manages and triages the Assertive Community Treatment Team Waiting List;
  • Coordinates and tracks mandatory departmental staff trainings;
  • Performs all other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master's Degree in Social Work;
  • Certification as Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by the New York State Department of Education;
  • Valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate capacity to meet transportation needs of the job;
  • One (1) year of experience as a psychiatric social worker may be substituted for the above year of study in a psychiatric setting.

This position requires a thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of psychiatric social work, as well as the ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, colleagues, patients' families, physicians, and social agencies.

The ideal candidate will possess good judgment, patience, and the ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
