About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Journeyman to join our team at the State of OK JD McCarty Center. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the physical environment of our pediatric rehabilitation hospital is in excellent condition for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair, and install HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including compressors, condensers, pumps, electrical and pneumatic control systems, fans, humidifiers, electronic filters, air compressors, electric motors, heat exchangers, and miscellaneous valves and pipes.
  • Work with consultants and suppliers to troubleshoot systems or equipment and system upgrades, as assigned by the Director of Building and Maintenance.
  • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, manufacturer's manuals, blueprints, sketches, and written instructions.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on all HVAC and refrigeration equipment, as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Complete reports of maintenance inspections, including maintenance work completed, supplies used, recommendations for the equipment, and next service date.
  • Oversee the work of Construction/Maintenance Technicians, Laborers, and Groundskeeper, under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Direct and teach assigned staff members basic principles of the repair or installation of assigned projects.
  • Inspect buildings, premises, and equipment to determine requirements for maintenance, replacement, construction, or renovation projects, under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Assist with acquiring estimates of cost, labor, and materials, and assist the supervisor with evaluating bids and necessary specifications to meet hospital standards.
  • Operate all Agency's equipment in accordance with equipment manufacturers' guidelines or recommendations.
  • Demonstrate safety awareness while performing assigned duties, using equipment properly, wearing safety belts, safety glasses, safety gloves, etc.
  • Follow agency and department policy guidelines when lifting, and use proper body mechanics for lifting/push/pulling up to 50 pounds, obtaining assistance for weights over 50 pounds.
  • Act as department supervisor in the absence of the Director of Building and Maintenance, ensuring the needs of the agency are met and completed in a professional and timely manner.
Requirements
  • Five years of experience in skilled building trade or maintenance work involving the construction, maintenance, alteration, and/or repair of buildings, grounds, and utilities, including two years of supervising employees, or contractors in one of the fields listed above.
  • Active licensure as a Mechanical Journeyman with the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board.
  • Ability to maintain and repair various types of heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning equipment; install various types of heating and air conditioning components; provide guidance and training to assigned work crews; perform highly independent work; read and interpret blueprints; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Working Conditions
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Lifting, pushing, or pulling 50 pounds.
  • Climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Valid driver's license.

The State of OK JD McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36-bed hospital, providing a 30-day evaluation for our patients, with a treatment team consisting of nursing and therapeutic services.
