Position Summary

This role involves the meticulous handling and distribution of blood products under direct supervision. The technician is responsible for the accurate processing of orders, ensuring timely transportation of products to designated locations, and managing the transfer of unprocessed materials to the laboratory for analysis. The position also includes receiving imported blood products and managing inventory transfers, all while providing exceptional customer service and maintaining thorough documentation of all procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Adhere to internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and external regulations, promptly reporting any compliance issues to management.

2. Accurately receive and input orders for blood products.

3. Execute electronic shipments of blood products efficiently.

4. Package and deliver shipments to the appropriate locations.

5. Prepare and transport unprocessed blood products and sample tubes for laboratory processing.

6. Deliver necessary supplies to donor centers as required.

7. Process return transactions for blood products.

8. Manage inventory transfers between distribution sites.

9. Receive and process imported blood products with care.

10. Conduct specimen pick-ups as directed by the Reference Laboratory.

11. Perform vehicle inspections and report any issues promptly.

12. Handle the disposal of outdated or unsuitable products appropriately.

13. Complete billing procedures for special collections as assigned.

14. Initiate and complete component retrievals as necessary.

15. Ensure proper storage of blood products and respond to storage alarms as needed.

16. Conduct inventory audits to maintain accuracy.

17. Prepare and provide historical antigen negative products upon request.

18. Maintain proper inventory rotation practices.

19. Ensure thorough documentation of all processes, maintaining organized files and clean work areas.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR LEVEL II TECHNICIANS:

1. Label blood components accurately.

2. Perform irradiation of blood components as required.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PROBLEM-SOLVING:

The technician must uphold a high standard of service, ensuring that customer needs are prioritized during all interactions. This includes delivering services in a timely, accurate, and professional manner while demonstrating strong problem-solving abilities.

WORK COMPLEXITY:

The role encompasses various tasks that require analysis and decision-making based on unique circumstances. Employees must navigate multiple processes and methods, often requiring independent judgment.

SUPERVISION:

Supervisors provide guidance by outlining objectives and deadlines, while employees are expected to execute tasks independently, following established protocols and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

14. Capability to operate basic office equipment.

19. Physical ability to lift 40 pounds and maneuver up to 350 pounds.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED is required.

EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience in material handling and driving is preferred. For Level II, completion of all SOPs for Level I and demonstrated competency in assigned functions for a minimum of six months is necessary.

CERTIFICATIONS:

A valid California Driver's License is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
