Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students, addressing social, behavioral, and academic concerns.
  • Develop and implement guidance programs to promote student success and well-being.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to provide support and resources to students.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on student progress and counseling services.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in school counseling.

Requirements:
  • Valid Louisiana Elementary/Secondary Certificate.
  • Master's degree in School Counseling from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Completion of a standards-based master's degree program in school counseling.
  • Practicum/internship requirements, including 100 contact hours in a school setting and 600 contact hours in a school setting.
  • Completion of the Praxis examination in school counseling.

Working Conditions:
  • The School Guidance Counselor will work in an office-type setting, adhering to School Board energy policy, and in outside areas subject to climate extremes.
  • The workday consists of eight hours per day, including one hour for lunch.
  • Junior/Middle School counselors work the same amount of days as regular teachers.
  • High School counselors work an additional twenty (20) days.
