Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse will supervise and provide dispensing activities in the dispensary under the direction of healthcare providers and the Director of Nursing.
Responsibilities:
- Perform dispensing duties according to the Nursing Practice Act and regulations set forth by the Board of Pharmacy.
- Maintain continuous quality improvement for all dispensary activities.
- Maintain all pharmaceutical inventory.
- Supervise dispensary staff.
- Teach and educate newly diagnosed diabetic patients on insulin use.
- Complete paperwork for obtaining medicines through the Patient Assistance Program and order refills as needed.
- Follow up with patients to obtain income documentation needed for the program.
- Coordinate with pharmaceutical representatives to obtain sample medications.
- Fax prescriptions to pharmacies as directed by clinicians.
- Assist in providing and dispensing pharmaceutical products and devices to patients under the supervision of providers.
- Monitor and inventory medication supplies and order as needed.
- Inventory and package expired medications for destruction.

- Receive and disburse satellite site inventory in separate containers.
- Perform clerical duties when the dispensary clerk is unavailable.
- Participate in Quality Improvement activities related to the dispensary.
- Collect patient specimens, including blood, urine, and sputum, as directed by clinicians while following safety standards.
- Prepare specimen samples for laboratory pickup.
- Perform simple assays, such as finger-stick glucose tests and urine dipstick analysis, under the direction of clinicians.
- Administer inoculations, nebulizer treatments, and simple catheterizations under the supervision of clinicians.
- Ensure timely follow-up on immunization records and maintain accurate inventory.
- Maintain lab area cleanliness and ensure containment of hazardous waste.
- Check and calibrate laboratory equipment daily.
- Document all specimens collected from immunization given to patients.
- Perform EKG, spirometry, peak flow measurement, and CHDP required services as ordered by clinicians.
- Retrieve laboratory results from the printer, monitor and cross-reference with orders, and disseminate labs to clinicians for review.
- Ensure laboratory results are in the patient's medical record before the appointment and contact the laboratory if results are not in the chart.
Requirements:
- Current RN license in the state of California.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- BCLS certification.
- Regular, predictable attendance during clinic hours.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately with minimal supervision.
- Legal authorization to work in the US, a valid California Driver's license, and access to insured automobile.
