Key Responsibilities- Initiate assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of care interventions for patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed health problems.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of various treatment modalities and referrals through autonomous and accountable decisions in medical practice supported by current research.
- Function as a typical member of the clinical team with regards to professional responsibilities, including patient care and post-visit administrative duties.
- Collaborate with nursing and social work staff to coordinate sub-specialty care.
- Provide consultation and education to patients, parents, and staff to increase the quality of patient care.
- Collaborate with external healthcare providers as necessary to make appropriate medical decisions.
- Coordinate the transferring of patients to emergency facilities and arrange for hospitalization as needed.
- Provide guidance and assistance to medical assistants.
- Perform routine professional duties, including completing and locking medical notes, addressing labs, responding to telephone encounters, and correcting billing claims.
- M.D. or D.O. degree and a current license to practice medicine in Maryland and DC.
- CDS and DEA authorization in DC and Maryland.
- Board Certification in Family Medicine preferred.
- A minimum of two years practicing medicine in a community health clinic environment, preferred but not required.
- Experience working with immigrant or economically-disadvantaged populations in a maternal/child healthcare setting highly desirable.
- A thorough understanding and knowledge of patient confidentiality issues and HIPAA compliance/regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively in English is required. Additional language proficiency or fluency in Spanish preferred.
Work EnvironmentMostly in a typical clinical office setting with quiet to moderate noise level. May be exposed to potentially hazardous blood-borne/respiratory pathogens and bodily fluids which require the practice of Universal Precaution procedures.
