POSITION SUMMARY: Evaluates and addresses the effects of medical conditions, injuries, developmental challenges, or psychological issues on the individual's ability to perform essential daily activities. This includes, but is not limited to, mobility, personal grooming, nutrition, dressing, hygiene, transportation, meal preparation, and employment tasks. The role involves supporting the individual in regaining, developing, and acquiring skills necessary for achieving maximum independence, minimizing joint stress, preventing additional joint deterioration, and conserving energy. The professional is tasked with creating, executing, and overseeing the care plan tailored to the individual served. This includes administering various occupational therapy techniques and collaborating closely with the individual, their family, and the multidisciplinary team throughout the therapeutic process.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Doctorate, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Valid licensure from the American Occupational Therapy Association in New Mexico and current BLS certification are mandatory.

SKILLS: Exhibits responsibility and proficiency in assessment and evaluation, decision-making, and time management. Must possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities, along with organizational skills.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year of experience in Occupational Therapy is preferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

Reports to: Director/Manager of Rehabilitation Services

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogen exposure risk: B

Operates in a well-maintained, well-lit, and ventilated smoke-free setting. There is potential exposure to infectious diseases, aggressive patients, and hazardous materials. The role may involve managing stressful professional interactions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must maintain good physical health. The position requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Responsibilities include lifting, positioning, and transferring patients, as well as handling equipment. Ability to lift supplies or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs is necessary. There is a risk of strains associated with lifting heavy patients and equipment.
