Job Description

Providing Professional Services

The ideal candidate will provide professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients and employees injured as a result of TDCJ-ID work-related activities. Ensuring timely and accessible healthcare for the inmate population is crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough medical histories and physician examinations; form clinical impressions based on findings; order diagnostic tests, interpret results, prescribe medications, and render treatments as necessary.
  • Inspect, complete, and analyze medical records; assign, review, and update medical classifications; complete admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries, and make rounds on patients admitted to infirmaries or regional medical facilities.
  • Refer patients to specialists for consultations, evaluations, and treatments.
  • Serve in rotation with other physicians to provide after-hours and weekend patient care.
  • Directly supervise all physicians and mid-level practitioners.
  • Oversee and manage all operations of the unit's medical department, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and court orders.
  • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structures established for the department.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Hold a current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Hold a current DEA controlled substances registration.
