Position Overview

The CNC Horizontal Mill Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating advanced Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery, along with manual equipment, to produce both metallic and nonmetallic components. This role includes training fellow employees on machine setup and operation as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, and specifications to ascertain dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences for machining tasks.
  • Marks and measures workpieces to establish reference points for subsequent machining processes.
  • Selects and secures the appropriate fixtures, cutting tools, and materials for machining operations.
  • Calculates and adjusts machining parameters such as speed, feed, and coolant flow, or inputs commands into computerized machine controls.
  • Monitors machine operations to identify malfunctions or deviations from specifications, making necessary adjustments.
  • Collaborates with engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve production issues effectively.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to less experienced employees throughout the production process.
  • Maintains a professional, safe, and organized work environment by adhering to company policies and safety protocols.
  • Fosters teamwork by building strong relationships with colleagues and working collaboratively towards common goals.
  • Adheres to ethical standards and complies with all relevant laws and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in the setup and operation of both CNC and manual machines, including horizontal and vertical configurations.
  • Demonstrates independence in all aspects of machining and production.
  • Skilled in machining complex components with precision.
  • Experienced in using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gage pins.
  • Possesses strong troubleshooting abilities.
  • Expertise in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Adept at diagnosing equipment performance through observation and analysis.
  • Solid understanding of mathematical concepts including algebra and geometry.
  • Knowledgeable in work holding devices and capable of designing and building as necessary.
  • Experienced in deburring and finishing processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of tapping, threading, and various thread forms.
  • Familiar with material properties, including cutting speeds and feeds.
  • Able to plan and execute machining sequences from start to finish.
  • U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident status is typically required due to government contracting.
