Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) play a crucial role in delivering quality patient care within the Nursing Department. Under the supervision of the assigned registered nurse, the LPN assists with patient care and other departmental functions as outlined in this job description, ensuring effective communication with the responsible RN. The work performed by each LPN must align with the mission, vision, and values of Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.

- Completing additional department and patient-related tasks as assigned, in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Licensure: Active Michigan license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program. Successful completion of an accredited pharmacology course is preferred.
- Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience: No prior experience required; however, previous experience as an LPN in a rehabilitation setting is preferred.
The work environment described here represents the conditions an employee may encounter while serving as an LPN at Mary Free Bed. The ability to perform these tasks is essential for providing the necessary patient care:
- Must be able to stand, sit, talk, type, read, and hear.
- Required to use hands and arms for handling, feeling, carrying, and working.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and rising from a kneeling position while performing patient care.
- Must be independently mobile, with frequent bending and overhead reaching for activities such as positioning and transferring patients and equipment.
- Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Due to potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and hazardous materials, must understand and follow departmental safety policies.
- Competency with computer systems for documenting patient care is required.
- Must work effectively under time constraints, problem-solve unexpected issues, handle interruptions, and prioritize tasks efficiently.
