Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Civil Rights Attorney to join our team at Florida Rural Legal Services. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing civil legal assistance to indigent persons in Martin and Saint Lucie Counties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Intake and Representation: Interview, certify eligibility, and identify the legal problems of FRLS clients within a specific area of law and provide clients with appropriate legal assistance in the form of advice, referrals, or actual representation.
  • Community Outreach and Education: Participate in community outreach and education to promote the mission and services of FRLS.
  • Court Representation: Represent clients in court and before administrative agencies as accepted.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Provide documentation, statistical information, and other records as required by the Managing Attorney, Advocacy Director, or Executive Director.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school and barred in Florida.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of State and Federal court practices, some knowledge of the legal system, commitment to the mission of FRLS, and compassion for the clients.
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to forge positive relationships with prospects and colleagues, good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, yet independently, and must be able to effectively and efficiently maximize existing resources.
Working Conditions

The position operates in a professional office environment five days a week. Must be able to travel.
