General Summary:

The Anesthesiologist specializing in Pain Medicine is responsible for ensuring patient comfort throughout surgical and medical procedures by administering anesthesia and other medications. This role involves the precise administration of anesthetics during operations and ongoing monitoring of patients' vital signs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes various methods, including intravenous, local, caudal, or spinal techniques, to provide sedation or pain relief during medical procedures.
  • Oversees patients' pain management protocols before, during, and after surgical interventions, addressing any complications or adverse reactions that may arise.
  • Evaluates patient risk factors by reviewing medical histories, conducting examinations, and ordering necessary diagnostic tests.
  • Collaborates with healthcare professionals to determine the appropriate anesthetic methods to ensure effective pain management.
  • Provides critical airway management and life support during emergency surgical situations.
  • Monitors patients post-operatively to assess their stability before transitioning them to recovery or discharge.
  • Coordinates anesthesiology services and collaborates with medical staff to develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Educates patients and their families regarding post-operative care and potential complications.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or Doctor of Medicine (MD) required.
  • Must hold a valid Medical Physician and Surgeon license or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine license upon hire.
  • Certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology and completion of an Anesthesiology residency required upon hire.
