About the Role

X, The Moonshot Factory, is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our AI team. As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for applying your expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning to drive innovation and solve complex problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence and machine learning, with a focus on applications in computational chemistry and material science.
  • Develop and implement machine learning solutions for real-world problems, including prototype sensors and hardware.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to design and run experiments, and provide research input on early explorations.
  • Provide guidance on data needs, including size, type, and variability.
  • Integrate the latest research into applied projects, and design and evaluate new algorithms.
  • Represent X in the broader research and academic community, and collaborate with other research groups.
Requirements
  • PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in computer vision, machine learning, optimization, and machine intelligence, with at least 2 years of experience in applying these techniques in chemistry and materials science.
  • Programming experience in Python, C++, or other relevant languages.
  • Research contributions, including publishing papers in machine learning venues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant work experience in industry or academia.
  • Strong publication record.
  • Projects with interdisciplinary nature, including deep knowledge of at least one physical science domain.
  • Experience with ML pipelines, experiments, and system evaluation.
  • Programming experience with TensorFlow or similar frameworks.
  • Ability to design and execute on research agenda.
  • Ability to work in small teams, under ambiguity, and with limited supervision.
