About the Rehabilitation Unit:
The UPMC Passavant Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility is a 24-bed unit within an acute care hospital, providing extensive rehabilitation services as part of a rigorous rehabilitation program. Patients admitted to this unit require the ability to engage in 3 hours of intensive rehabilitation services daily. Our multidisciplinary rehabilitation team addresses various conditions, including strokes, neurological disorders, and general debilitation.
The vision for our Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is to be the preferred choice for quality rehabilitation care in our community, with our team recognized as leaders in rehabilitation services.
Mission: Our mission is to assist patients with altered functional abilities in achieving their goals and optimal functional levels by the time of discharge through personalized and effective rehabilitation services.
Staff members on this unit collaborate closely, fostering meaningful relationships with patients over their extended stay. The culture is characterized by teamwork, positivity, and encouragement, with staff working in partnership with physicians and therapy teams to provide comprehensive care.
Role of the Professional Staff Nurse:
The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and integral member of the care delivery team, responsible for setting standards for care quality. This role encompasses leadership, collaboration, and accountability for patient care delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster productive relationships with patients and colleagues through accountability and commitment.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and promote healthy relationships.
- Maintain a balance between professional responsibilities and personal well-being.
- Utilize the nursing process to create a healing environment.
- Develop individualized care plans in partnership with patients.
- Engage in critical thinking to address clinical and psychosocial issues.

The individual must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating an understanding of growth and development principles.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse
- CPR certification required
- Completion of licensure examination within specified timeframes
