Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our Diagnostic Imaging team at UMass Memorial Health. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review physician orders to determine appropriate dosing of radioisotopes for injection or oral administration, verifying radioisotope measurement, count, and dose calibration.
  • Explain nuclear medicine procedures to patients, answer questions, and observe patient condition or negative reactions, injecting appropriately calibrated radiopharmaceuticals intravenously.
  • Perform organ visualization procedures and function tests to produce scans suitable for medical evaluation and diagnosis, utilizing gamma camera to photograph organs identified by radioactive materials administered.
  • Record computer calculations and measurements of organs, blood vessels, etc., and prepare test reports along with patient scan for physician review, investigating and supplying additional information relative to test interpretation.
  • Order and stock radiopharmaceuticals, prepare and label solutions and reagents, maintaining adequate shielding of radioactive material in storage and during transportation to the testing area.
Requirements
  • Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of a degree in nuclear medicine technology.
  • Registration or registry eligible as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American College of Radiology, NMT or the Society of Nuclear Medicine (NMTB).
  • Licensure to work as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • BLS healthcare provider required before completion of 90-day probationary period.
  • D.O.T. Certified in Radioactive Waste.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preferred, but not required.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

This job requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and reaching with hands and arms. Weight lifting or force exertion is required up to 10 pounds, 25 pounds, and 50 pounds.
