Civil Engineer Senior - Traffic Division

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer Senior to join our Traffic Services Division. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of Overland Park's transportation infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the design and construction of traffic engineering projects, ensuring compliance with City Design Criteria and Specifications.
  • Review and approve consultant-produced engineering plans for new construction and installation of traffic signals, streetlights, and other infrastructure.
  • Prepare in-house design plans, specifications, and contract documents for capital and maintenance-related traffic engineering projects.
  • Conduct traffic studies, including speed studies, traffic signal warrants, and vehicle crash data analysis, to identify areas for improvement.
  • Evaluate requests from citizens regarding traffic calming measures and oversee data collection efforts.
  • Respond to public inquiries on traffic concerns and provide general traffic engineering information.
  • Assist in updating the approved materials list, standard details, and design guide wiki information for traffic signals, streetlighting, and pavement marking and signing.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in traffic or transportation engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration in the state of Kansas or another state with Kansas registration within twelve months of employment.
  • Possession of Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification preferred.
  • Six or more years of traffic engineering experience, including project management, negotiating, and contract development.
