As the Director of Vital Statistics, you will lead the Reporting and Registration Branch within the Vital Statistics Section. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and establish goals and objectives consistent with the agency's strategic plan.

You will develop policies, procedures, and guidelines that align with statutes and rules concerning vital records, and implement and monitor compliance. Additionally, you will plan, develop, and approve schedules and priorities for achieving timely, accurate, and secure order fulfillment, and direct evaluation activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Directing the Reporting and Registration Branch within Vital Statistics Section
  • Developing and establishing goals and objectives consistent with the agency's strategic plan
  • Developing policies, procedures, and guidelines that align with statutes and rules concerning vital records
  • Implementing and monitoring compliance
  • Planning, developing, and approving schedules and priorities for achieving timely, accurate, and secure order fulfillment
  • Directing evaluation activities

You will also be responsible for recommending new and innovative approaches to better business practices and customer service delivery, and directing the preparation of production, status, budget, and other reports for the Reporting and Registration Branch in accordance with VSS and DSHS policy.

Additionally, you will advise the State Registrar on staffing, legislative initiatives, administrative rules, technological advances, and budget funding for activities and operations related to the Reporting and Registration Branch.

Key skills and abilities include:

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to vital statistics
  • Knowledge of Legislative Cycles and Fiscal Planning
  • Knowledge of Public Policy Development and Rulemaking
  • Knowledge of state legislative processes, state agency rule making process, and public accountability systems
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, budget management, Human Resources management, and project management
  • Skill in establishing plans and setting objectives and goals that support vital statistics
  • Skill in managing multiple and competing priorities
  • Skill in problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation
  • Skill in working collaboratively and cooperatively with colleagues
  • Ability to direct and organize program activities and/or business functions
