Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily quality and food safety operations in compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Maintain readiness for audits and ensure robust food safety and quality programs are in place.
- Address non-conformance issues promptly by escalating them to senior management.
- Supervise sanitation efforts to uphold a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Ensure pest control measures are effective and consistently applied.
- Manage change control processes to facilitate thorough risk assessments.
- Collaborate with operations to ensure adherence to manufacturing instructions and preventive maintenance protocols.
- Lead investigations into quality issues, focusing on root cause analysis and resolution.
- Oversee the management of product hold and release protocols.
- Review quality records daily to ensure compliance and timely approvals.
- Foster a positive work environment and develop talent within the team.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to quality.
- Participate in budgeting processes and identify capital projects that enhance food safety and quality.
- Provide training on food safety regulations and compliance to plant personnel.
- Demonstrate leadership during emergencies and unplanned events.
- Engage with all staff to address food safety challenges and inquiries.
- Collaborate with R&D on new product introductions to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Act as the primary contact for customer complaints and inquiries, ensuring timely and effective responses.
- Monitor compliance with customer specifications and expectations.
- Prepare the facility for customer and regulatory visits.
- Oversee laboratory practices to ensure accurate quality control results.
- Conduct data analysis to identify trends and inform proactive decision-making.
- Ensure a robust Environmental Monitoring Program is in place.
- Coordinate testing of samples and maintain quality management documentation.
- Ensure all operational documents are current and compliant with standards.
- Conduct management activities, including performance evaluations and employee development.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in food science, biological sciences, or a related field is required, along with 5 to 8 years of experience in quality assurance within the food or beverage industry. Leadership experience is preferred, along with relevant certifications such as PCQI, HACCP, or SQF Practitioner.
Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of current good manufacturing practices, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and excellent communication skills. Critical thinking and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential for success in this role.
