Job Summary

This is a PFT union represented position. The salary currently ranges from $52,516 to $94,688, depending on the level of education and years of experience. The salary you receive in your offer letter will be a quote. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate instructional programs for exceptional students with varying needs.
  • Teach students using curriculum, instructional methods, and techniques.
  • Use effective classroom strategies to promote learning.
  • Serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team for planning a comprehensive educational program for students.
  • Train and oversee the activities of classroom assistants in the instructional process.
Essential Functions
  • Plan classroom lessons and activities in accordance with the skill level of students.
  • Develop and use techniques and materials to enhance students' academic abilities and remediate specific learning handicaps.
  • Ensure the classroom is arranged to promote learning.
  • Implement effective educational interventions as needed.
  • Develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student.
  • Ensure plans are complete and current and include strategies for specialized instruction.
  • Set individualized goals and objectives for students.
  • Serve on a multidisciplinary team with other professionals.
  • Collaborate with team members to plan and implement a comprehensive training program for students.
  • Exchange information about educational activities and discuss therapeutic techniques to be integrated into the ongoing instructional process.
  • Review and evaluate students' progress to assess program effectiveness.
  • Conduct parent conferences.
  • Inform families of student progress and behavior.
  • Encourage family participation in school activities.
  • Disseminate information regarding support services available in the school.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments and improvements in special education.
  • Maintain classroom discipline, attendance, grades, and other required records.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current principles, practices, and methods of special, elementary, and secondary education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the theories and principles of child and/or adolescent growth and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess students' needs and learning styles to design appropriate differentiated instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prepare, and implement lessons and activities in accordance with the skill level of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop materials for use in instructional programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to use and apply audio-visual methods and materials to classroom situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain records.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with pupils, parents, administrators, associates, and community agencies.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in Special Education endorsed for Cognitive, Behavior, Physical and/or Health Disabilities.
  • Ability to be eligible for an emergency permit and to complete the educational obligation attached to it.
