Job Summary

The Director of Rehabilitation Services is responsible for leading the operational and strategic growth of the Phoenix Children's inpatient and outpatient rehab service line. This role provides high-level decision-making to ensure operational effectiveness of the service line. The Director of Rehab is accountable for continuous improvement of rehab services to produce quality outcomes that meet/exceed the needs and expectations of those served by Phoenix Children`s.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Management
    • Develops strategies, with input from key stakeholders, to ensure effective market positioning for rehab in alignment with overall PCH goals and expectations.
    • Enhances and develops relationships with physicians and other key stakeholders to bolster programs that will lead to improved outcomes and additional volume and revenue, improving clinical care and PCH's strategic positioning in the marketplace.
    • Provides expert and concise evidence-based documents using data to drive decisions and monitor progress.
    • Provides oversight and change management for departments assigned.
    • Co-leads with PM&R Medical Director and Nursing Director for IP rehab unit and CARF accreditation to support strategic goals and initiatives.
    • Builds working relationships with physicians and other leaders and service lines to drive performance improvement and meets strategic goals for the organization as they relate to rehab services.
    • Contributes to a culture of innovation to drive change and improvement.
  2. Financial Management
    • Thorough understanding of facility-based billing and hospital revenue cycle; able to identify interventions to respond to changes in reimbursement.
    • Strategize opportunities to improve operational efficiencies and increase profitability within rehab services.
    • Develops financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements, trends, and variances within rehab service line.
    • Creates, monitors, and analyzes assigned budgets and addresses variances with action plans.
    • Manages and meets productivity metrics and variances for departments assigned.
    • Manages capital planning for departments assigned.
    • Ensures expenses are managed properly and identifies opportunities for cost containment.
    • Ensures compliance with all billing requirements within the state of Arizona.
  3. Clinical Leadership
    • Provides clinical expertise regarding pediatric population and upskills staff as needed.
    • Assigns resources to match clinical needs across rehab services.
    • Ensures documentation is timely and accurate.
    • Ensures timely evaluations and consults according to hospital, state, and federal policy.
    • Monitors referrals for appropriate plan of care including duration and visits.
    • Ensures compliance with DNV, federal and state regulatory agencies and hospital policies.
  4. Performance Improvement
    • Identifies key performance indicators for all sites of service and establishes data collection methodology, evaluate performance data, and responds to outcome measurement findings.
    • Identifies process improvement strategies to improve overall quality and safety, customer service and financial performance within service line.
    • Ensures QAPI plans in place to meet national benchmarks and metrics all departments, including CARF accreditation requirements.
    • Assesses customer (internal and external) and patient satisfaction; develops and implements strategies to address and improve satisfaction issues.
    • Ensures safety events and trends are actively managed and addressed.
    • Actively promotes internal and external communication.
  5. Human Resources
    • Identifies staffing needs for departments assigned, develops action plans to meet these needs as warranted, including the addition of other sites within the enterprise.
    • Manages human resources within the scope of labor laws and hospital policies.
    • Applies recruitment techniques and strategies to fill vacancies.
    • Applies individual and team interview techniques to select qualified applicants.
    • Develops, oversees, and evaluates onboarding process and content for departments assigned.
    • Conducts staff evaluations, assists staff with setting goals, implements continual performance development, initiates corrective actions, and terminates staff as needed.
  6. Relationship Management and Influencing Behaviors
    • Identifies when conflict remains and intervenes to help resolve.
    • Identifies issues that require immediate attention and applies principles of crisis management to handle situations as needed.
    • Influences other leaders through role modeling good communication and professional behavior; applies motivational theory and acts as a change agent; assists others in problem solving skills.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.
