Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Medical Surgical Float Pool Registered Nurse, your responsibilities will include conducting patient assessments, creating a care plan, and implementing and evaluating care.

As part of the interdisciplinary care team, you will collaborate with other members to ensure the safe and effective delivery of care.


  • You will develop a care plan, adjust it based on the patient's response to treatment, and regularly assess its effectiveness.
  • You will consult and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to create, evaluate, and modify the care plan to meet the patient's needs and objectives.
  • You will administer medications and perform treatments in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • You will appropriately delegate tasks to non-licensed staff following established standards of practice.
  • You will provide pre- and post-operative care to patients.
  • You will supply educational materials to patients and their families regarding care and treatments.
  • You will facilitate discharge planning in collaboration with the care team.

Qualifications Required:
Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Education

  • Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licenses and Certifications

  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If holding a Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required as per St. David's Healthcare policy.
  • NIHSS certification – required as per St. David's Healthcare policy.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification – preferred.
