Shift: Days – 9 hour shifts with rotating start times between 8am and 9:30am

Certifications Required: PALS, BLS, ACLS

Role Summary

The Registered Nurse in the PACU is accountable for delivering high-quality patient care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. This role emphasizes the application of the nursing process while adhering to professional standards.

Organizational Structure

Reports to: Clinical Nurse Manager

Supervises: Licensed Practical Nurses and Nurse Assistants

Key Relationships

Internal: Nursing colleagues, ancillary medical staff

External: Patients, families, and visitors

Patient Demographics

Serves a diverse patient population including Neonatal, Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric patients.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Assessment: Evaluate the patient's comprehensive needs—physical, psychosocial, environmental, and educational—and document responses to nursing interventions.
  2. Care Planning: Develop and implement individualized care plans, including discharge planning, based on nursing standards and patient needs.
  3. Guidance: Direct patient care activities utilizing clinical judgment and evidence-based practices.
  4. Education: Identify educational needs of patients and families, creating and executing teaching plans.
  5. Communication: Effectively relay significant patient changes to colleagues and multidisciplinary teams.
  6. Meetings: Attend departmental meetings and educational opportunities, maintaining an 80% attendance rate.
  7. Resource Management: Manage human and material resources efficiently, meeting departmental productivity expectations.
  8. Adaptability: Embrace changes in the healthcare environment and support technological advancements.
  9. Problem Solving: Identify and address issues proactively, contributing to process improvement initiatives.
  10. Documentation: Accurately document patient information in electronic and paper records.
  11. Delegation: Supervise and delegate tasks based on patient needs and scope of practice.
  12. Confidentiality: Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
