Job Summary:

The DeKalb County Carpenter Specialist is responsible for performing carpentry installation, maintenance, and repairs in County buildings and facilities. This role is safety sensitive and subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County's Drug & Alcohol Policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces interior and exterior door locks, closers, frames, and hinges.
  • Inspects doors to identify needed repairs and checks lock, door frame, door swing, and door latch speed.
  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces walls and ceilings, such as drywall, plaster, cinder block, acoustic tile, soundproofing, and custom woodwork.
  • Inspects for mildew, determines source and cause of damage, and makes required repairs consistent with current building code.
  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces roofing and components, cleans and replaces gutters, and determines cause of damage and if cause has been eliminated.
  • Repairs and replaces flooring, such as historical structures, ceramic tile, wood, carpet, tile, vinyl, composite tile/VCT, etc.
  • Installs fences, removes mold and mildew, determines extent of needed mold remediation, and develops a list of materials and personal protective equipment required as per OSHA regulations.
  • Determines amount of materials needed to complete projects, provides cost projections as requested, and gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required, with vocational and technical training in carpentry, building trades, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in carpentry or the building trades, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
