Role Overview:
The Geotechnical Engineer operates under the guidance of the department head or a senior geotechnical engineer, contributing to project teams to ensure successful outcomes and client satisfaction. This role encompasses both fieldwork and office responsibilities across various projects, demanding advanced technical expertise and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct site assessments to collect data and identify locations for subsurface exploration.
- Oversee and manage surface and subsurface investigation and testing operations.
- Perform site evaluations to document and assess existing structures such as foundations and retaining walls.
- Collaborate with project teams to establish objectives and prepare service proposals, including scope and fee structures.
- Assist in project initiation and invoicing processes.
- Execute geotechnical analyses by interpreting field data, laboratory results, and analytical findings, utilizing software for design and report preparation.
- Draft construction drawings and specifications for foundational and support structures.
- Conduct environmental site assessments and develop corrective action plans based on field data.
- Support the scheduling, oversight, and training of Field Technicians.
- Engage effectively with project team members to ensure timely and budget-compliant task completion.
- Assist in laboratory accreditation and certification processes, including documentation of equipment and personnel training.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 3-6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in preparing geotechnical reports and conducting data analysis.
- EIT or GIT Certification is required, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months.
- PE or PG Registration is strongly preferred.
- Valid Driver's License with insurability by fleet insurer.
- Proficient in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe).
- Familiarity with CAD and structural design/analysis software is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly in English.
- Adept at reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and contracts.
- Knowledgeable about methods and equipment used in geotechnical and construction industries.
- Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines while maintaining a positive demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and complete assignments as per given instructions and accepted practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
- Regular and punctual attendance is essential.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including wet, humid, extreme cold, and heat.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring prolonged standing and repetitive motions.
- Overtime, travel, and moderate physical activity may be necessary to meet workload demands.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds regularly.
- Clear verbal communication skills are required.
