Job Title: Fleet Services Heavy Equipment Mechanic

We are seeking an experienced Fleet Services Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at Snohomish County Planning and Development Services. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of a variety of heavy equipment, including backhoes, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and tractor-trailer rigs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose defects in vehicle systems and components
  • Repair, rebuild, and overhaul brakes, cooling systems, drive train components, electrical components, engines, exhaust systems, hydraulic systems, suspension and steering systems, transmissions, and other assemblies, components, and systems
  • Operate a variety of shop equipment, including electric and oxyacetylene welding equipment, electronic test equipment, front-end alignment equipment, sandblasting and painting equipment, tire mounting and wheel balancing equipment, plasma cutters, band saws, metal lathes, brake lathes, hydraulic presses, air conditioning and emission test equipment
  • Fabricate machines, parts, and electronics as necessary
  • Perform preventive maintenance and service work on gasoline and diesel powered heavy equipment
  • Inspect and safety check vehicles and equipment
Requirements:
  • Successful completion of an accredited diesel/heavy duty equipment mechanic apprenticeship program or four (4) years of employment as a diesel/heavy duty equipment mechanic
  • Valid State of Washington Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of employment
  • Ability to pass job-related tests
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and with hazardous materials
