Job Summary:Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the Staff Nurse will provide professional nursing care to patients/clients within an assigned unit. This includes diagnosing and treating responses to actual or potential health problems, developing and implementing nursing regimens, and maintaining accurate records of patient care.
Responsibilities:- Identify and discriminate between physical and psycho-social signs and symptoms.
- Select and perform therapeutic measures essential for effective execution of the nursing regimen.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing regimens for assigned patients/clients.
- Record and maintain nursing care plans and progress notes to ensure continuity of care.
- Interpret and report responses of patients/clients to the healthcare team.
- Participate in interdisciplinary conferences to plan comprehensive patient care programs.
- Determine and assign components of the nursing regimen to be carried out by allied nursing personnel.
- Provide teaching, guidance, and direction to allied nursing personnel in rendering patient care.
- Participate in defining, implementing, maintaining, and interpreting standards of nursing practice.
- Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary conferences regarding policies and procedures affecting nursing practice.
- Participate in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to the delivery of nursing care services.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices, and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel.
- Interpret the philosophy and objectives of the agency and Nursing Department to patients/clients, families, and other groups.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences.
- A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
- Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
