Job Title: Park Manager

Job Summary:

The City of Whittier is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Park Manager to oversee the maintenance and operations of the city's parks and recreational facilities. The successful candidate will have a strong background in parks administration, tree management, and construction management, with a focus on ensuring the highest level of customer service and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct the operations and activities of the Park and Tree Divisions in the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the work of staff, including the maintenance and repair of parks, landscapes, and related facilities.
  • Estimate time and materials for completion of projects, and coordinate and conduct training programs for staff.
  • Respond to issues and concerns from the community, and work independently and as part of a team to achieve departmental goals.
  • Make sound decisions within established guidelines, and follow written and oral directions.
  • Observe safety principles and work in a safe manner, and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of community organizations, State/local agencies and associations, City management and staff, and the public.

Requirements:

  • Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Park Manager. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of four years of increasingly responsible experience in parks administration, tree management, and construction management at least two of which must have been at a management or supervisory level, and a bachelor's degree with major course work in landscape architecture, horticulture, park administration, or a related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class C California driver's license. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Pest Control Advisor license issued by the State of California. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Certified Arborist certification from I.S.A.
