Job Title: Pediatric General Surgeon

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pediatric General Surgeon to join our team at Stony Brook University Hospital. As a member of our surgical team, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary pediatric professionals to deliver comprehensive surgical services to our patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform a wide range of pediatric surgical procedures, including but not limited to appendectomies, hernia repairs, tumor excisions, and congenital anomaly corrections.
  • Evaluate and diagnose surgical conditions in pediatric patients through clinical examination, medical history review, and diagnostic tests.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for pediatric surgical patients while considering their unique medical needs and circumstances.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care to pediatric surgical patients, including monitoring their recovery and managing potential complications.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including pediatricians, anesthesiologists, nurses, and allied health professionals, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences to discuss complex pediatric surgical cases and develop optimal treatment strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation of surgical procedures and patient care activities.
  • Mentor, teach and engage Stony Brook University medical students and surgical residents on the wards, the operating room and classroom.
Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree (or foreign equivalent) from an ACGME accredited medical school.
  • Board Certified in Pediatric Surgery.
  • New York State medical licensed surgeon or be eligible for a New York State medical license and DEA registration.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ACLS/ATLS/PALS certification or eligible to obtain.
  • Advanced surgical skills and proficiency in pediatric surgical techniques.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and patient-centered care to pediatric patients and their families.
  • Strong academic credentials and focus on working with trainees (student, residents) on scholarly work.
  • Interest in building clinical services in conjunction with medical teams.
