Job Overview

Uncommon Schools Rochester Prep is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as an Apprentice Teacher. This role provides a unique opportunity for talented individuals with limited or no teaching experience to explore the field of education and gain hands-on practice and training to become a successful full-time classroom teacher.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe and learn from experienced teachers and school leaders to develop instructional techniques and classroom management skills.
  • Co-teach with teacher-leaders, provide in-house substitute teaching coverage, and support teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group student instruction.
  • Assist with various work inside and outside of the classroom, including teaching Enrichment classes, organizing student events, and developing mentoring relationships with students.
  • Participate in summer and school-year professional development, as well as regular meetings with an instructional coach, to gain the experience and support necessary to develop teaching skills.

  • Evidence of self-motivation, willingness to be a team player, and strong sense of personal responsibility.
  • Ideal candidates are hard-working, urgent, energetic, and willing to learn and adapt.
  • Strong time management skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.
  • A strong candidate will possess strong organizational skills, communication skills (particularly with children), and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in performing a critical support role and ability to excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, results-oriented environment.
  • Prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities is preferred but not required.
