The Engineering and Science Services and Capabilities Augmentation (ESSCA) contract offers engineering, scientific, and technical support to a major space agency. Our Integration and Environments Team is a high-performing group engaged in challenging tasks that support the Structural Design, Development & Analysis Division. This team plays a crucial role in significant programs aimed at human exploration of the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

Our ESSCA Team Leads act as first-line supervisors, overseeing task orders and personnel that meet the requirements outlined in the ESSCA Performance Work Statement, as well as any additional skills that may be necessary as the contract evolves. They ensure that high-performing individuals are recruited through structured human resources processes and are adequately trained, developed, and perform in accordance with our company policies and standards. Team Leads are responsible for the proactive management of assigned task orders and personnel to ensure effective fulfillment of requirements.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading a strong and high-performing team in support of our government client and management.
  • Providing technical supervision, including the assignment and balancing of team skills across various task orders to meet expectations.
  • Collaborating with management to assign and develop lead personnel for each task order or subtask as necessary.
  • Supporting resource allocation, tracking, and control for tasks and subtasks.
  • Overseeing individual and team technical performance, which may involve managing sub-task leads and providing technical expertise.
  • Ensuring the technical quality of work products generated by team members and implementing processes in the Performance Management System.
  • Training and developing team members through various methods, including on-the-job training and peer-to-peer training.
  • Forecasting future resource and skill needs in collaboration with management to maximize workforce flexibility and efficiency.
  • Identifying and managing risks related to cost, technical aspects, and schedules to ensure task order requirements and objectives are met.
  • Implementing safety programs and leading by example in our safety culture.
  • Conducting hiring functions to meet team support needs, including defining position requirements and leading recruitment efforts.
  • Setting employee goals and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Managing employee travel and training requests.

Team Leads will also:

  • Ensure excellent client relations and team dynamics through effective conflict resolution.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with other Team Leads and management.
  • Support leadership communication and development of best practices.
  • Work with personnel to explore new work areas and develop new task scopes.
  • Drive employee awareness and commitment to safety and client satisfaction.

Qualifications:

A degree in a scientific, engineering, or related field is required, preferably from an ABET-accredited institution. An advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) is highly desirable. Typically, educational requirements equate to a Ph.D. with a minimum of 4 years of experience, a Master's with at least 8 years, or a Bachelor's with at least 10 years of experience.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and leadership skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Active participation in professional societies.
  • Demonstrated skills in technical and systems management to support program evaluations.

Technical expertise in any of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Dynamics Analysis
  • Mechanical/Structural Engineering

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods during meetings and while performing engineering tasks. Ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors is necessary.

Attendance:

Normal work hours are Monday through Friday. Minimal overtime may be required to meet project milestones.

Other Essential Functions:

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to exercise good judgment is crucial. Appropriate grooming and dress are required for the position.
