To enhance our team, we are seeking a Lead Consultant in Energy Systems Analysis to join our Flexible Load Management (FLM) division. You will play a pivotal role in creating innovative, precise, timely, and high-quality solutions, often managing multiple projects with diverse teams. The FLM division excels in utility (Distributed Energy Resource) DER Planning, Program Design, and Program Implementation Analytics. Our profound understanding of client needs, coupled with practical experience, empowers us to help clients achieve significant outcomes.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Apply residential and commercial Building Energy Modeling (BEM) techniques to assist clients in addressing critical inquiries regarding flexible load management, including the hourly load and carbon implications of emerging DER technologies.
  • Conduct innovative energy efficiency and decarbonization assessments utilizing extensive BEM analysis frameworks, often building upon existing resources such as NREL's ResStock and ComStock.
  • Lead the development of new archetype commercial BEMs to facilitate client investigations into specific building types, such as fire stations and places of worship.
  • Support Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Potential studies, DER Program Planning, and regulatory assistance for U.S. Utilities and Government entities.
  • Create advanced analytical frameworks for large-scale optimization and sensitivity analysis using tools like Python and R.
  • Manage and interpret extensive datasets using Python, R, or advanced Excel functions as required by the project.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling presentations.
  • Serve as the primary author for reports, client deliverables, conference papers, journal articles, white papers, and marketing materials.
  • Lead project teams of junior staff, collaborating with clients and internal members to complete complex tasks and ensure timely and budget-conscious project delivery.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Electrical Engineering, Building Science, Energy Management, or related fields.
  • 8+ years of experience in Building Energy Modeling or related energy sector experience or academic equivalent.
  • Proficient in Building Energy Modeling Tools (e.g., OpenStudio, EnergyPlus).
  • Experience modeling commercial HVAC systems in large buildings using BEM tools.
  • Strong knowledge of heat transfer and thermodynamics in building contexts.
  • Advanced skills in managing and analyzing large datasets using Python, R, or advanced Excel functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Electrical Engineering, Building Science, Energy Management, or related fields.
  • 8+ years of experience in Building Energy Modeling or related energy sector experience or academic equivalent.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy and energy storage systems.
  • Experience with Energy Saving Calculations using Technical Resource Manuals (TRM) and other engineering guidelines like ASHRAE fundamentals.
  • Advanced programming and data analytics skills using Excel, Python, and/or R.
  • Understanding of building construction methods, mechanical systems, and energy use in residential and commercial settings.
  • Knowledge of economic valuation techniques such as NPV and IRR analysis, and utility cost-effectiveness evaluations.
  • Familiarity with energy codes and standards for residential and commercial buildings, including IECC codes and ASHRAE standards.
  • Project Management experience and client development skills.
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring junior associates.
